Caring For Your Healing Body
Cesarean sections are considered a major surgery and can take up to three whole months to heal fully! However, with proper care and attention, you can help prevent painful infection and avoid increased healing time. While it can be challenging to take proper care of yourself in the company of your newborn baby, here are a few simple tips and tricks for faster recovery:
- Get plenty of rest. Try to sleep whenever your baby sleeps and enlist the help of family friends whenever possible to help with the care of baby and household tasks.
- Be gentle with your body. It can take up to two months to recover fully, so check with your doctor before exercising, going back to work, lifting heavy objects, or driving.
- Use a postpartum recovery garment. These medical-grade support garments help to take the pressure off your incision while it heals. They also help to reduce pain, increase mobility, support and align the abdomen, stabilize the pelvic floor, and help heal diastasis recti.
- Eat well and stay hydrated. Focusing on proper nutrition will help your body to regain strength and replace the fluids lost during delivery and while breastfeeding.
- Place a pillow over your stomach when breastfeeding. You may also want to try a variety of nursing positions to find one that is comfortable while you're still healing, such as side-lying or football hold.
Also, our c-section bandages work to decrease instances of wound infection, minimize the pain of changing and removing typical drug store dressings, help to promote healing, and even prevent scarring.
